L-TyrosineL-tyrosine

L-tyrosine is an amino acid created in the body from phenylalanine, another amino acid found in the body. Tyrosine is also found in high-protein foods like meat, fish, eggs, certain dairy products like milk, yogurt and cheese, nuts, legumes, avocadoes, bananas, and whole grains.

Tyrosine is needed to create certain proteins and cell structures, as well as neurotransmitters (chemical messengers in the brain) like dopamine and serotonin, which are related to pain, appetite, and stress response.

What Does L-tyrosine Do?

Because of its role in supporting the nervous system, Tyrosine may help support healthy mood and feelings of alertness, as well as healthy mental activity. It may also be helpful for maintaining healthy energy levels, soothing stress, and maintaining a healthy cardiovascular system.

Tyrosine can help with symptoms of PMS (premenstrual syndrome), and may also help boost libido and libido-related performance. It may also help maintain healthy energy levels and mood in menopausal women.

L-tyrosine Studies

In a clinical trial, L-tyrosine depletion was shown to adversely affect mood in healthy females. Other studies have shown that supplementing with tyrosine can help mitigate stress-induced cognitive performance (for example memory), with cold-induced cognitive performance the variable most commonly tested. Additionally, tyrosine has also been shown to help maintain healthy blood pressure already within normal ranges in times of stress. Various studies show that tyrosine may also help soothe stress and increase feelings of general well-being.
